Detailed Itinerary of 5 Days Gorilla Habituation and Trekking Safari

Day 1: Pick up and Transfer to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park

To mark the start of your primate safari in Uganda, you will be met by our representative and your driver-guide. He will brief you about the safari and embark on a journey to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.

Along the way you will have a stop at the Equator Crossing for photography and a chance to stand both in Northern and Southern Hemispheres, enjoy your lunch in Mbarara and continue to Bwindi Forest arriving in the evening, check in at your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 2: Gorilla Habituation Experience

Breakfast will be served early at your lodge, then be driven to the park headquarters for briefing about gorilla habituation experience by a UWA Ranger Guide. In groups of 4 people together with scientists and researchers you will head into the forest searching for the semi-habituated gorilla troop. On locating the gorillas, you will join scientists and researchers in collecting samples, naming the gorillas and witness the whole process through which gorillas are made comfortable to human presence.

Gorilla habituation experience gives you ample time to learn about the gorillas, take photos and enough videos. Afterwards, return to your lodge for an evening of rest, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 3: Gorilla Trekking Experience

Wake up early for breakfast served at your lodge, return to the park headquarters for briefing about gorilla trekking conducted by a senior ranger guide. After the briefing you will be allocated gorilla family and in groups of 8 people, head into the forest searching for a gorilla family. The trek takes approximately 2 to 5 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas and where they spent their previous night, spend one hour in the presence of the gorillas watching them play, feed and groom each other. Take many photos and videos and after this thrilling experience, trek back to the starting point, return to your lodge for an evening of relaxation, dinner and overnight stay.

Day 4: Transfer to Queen Elizabeth National Park – Kazinga Boat Cruise

After breakfast, check out of your lodge, bid farewell to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park and drive to Queen Elizabeth National Park via the Ishasha Sector where you will get a chance to see the rare tree climbing lions.

Continue to your lodge for check-in, enjoy your lunch and have some rest. Later go for a boat cruise on Kazinga Channel where you will see hippos and crocodiles in the waters of the channel, herds of elephants and buffaloes among animals and several water birds such as herons along the banks. At sunset, return to your lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 5: Morning Game Drive – Departure

Wake up early for breakfast, check out of your lodge and go for a morning game drive in the Kasenyi Plains of Queen Elizabeth National Park. Expect to see several wildlife species including lions, elephants, buffaloes, Uganda kobs, warthogs, leopards and several bird species.

Later, exit the park and continue your journey back to Entebbe with a stop in Mbarara for lunch. You will be dropped off at a preferred location or at the airport, bringing your safari to an end.
